LAMINITIS SYMPTOMS

Laminitis is the second biggest killer of horses after colic, so knowing what the symptoms are, and when to get help can make the difference between life and death for your horse.

It is a painful inflammatory condition of the tissues (laminae) that bond the hoof wall to the pedal (coffin) bone in the horses hoof. It can affect any horse, of any age or sex, at any time of the year.

This book has been compiled as a clear and concise guide to identifying the symptoms of laminitis to allow you to act quickly if your horse is affected! Yours today for only $4.97.

WHAT THIS BOOK HAS TO OFFER

Laminitis is the most serious disease of the equine foot as it causes pathological changes in anatomy that can lead to long lasting,
crippling changes in function (chronic laminitis or founder) if not treated promptly.

Learn how to recognize the early signs of laminitis as it’s critical to allowing you to act quickly and minimise the discomfort and damage,
while giving your horse it’s best chance of survival.

WHAT IS LAMINITIS?

Laminitis is inflammation of the laminae of the foot – the soft tissue structures that attach the coffin or pedal bone of the foot to the hoof wall. In more severe cases it can lead to complete separation of and rotation of the pedal bone within the hoof wall.

SYMPTOMS

You are unlikely to see all of these at the same time, and symptoms will change as the severity of the laminitis progresses. The earlier you recognise the symptoms, remove the cause and support the feet, the better the outcome is likely to be.

CAUSES OF LAMINITIS

Laminitis is caused by weakening of the supporting lamina within the hoof, leading to painful tearing of the support structure suspending the pedal bone within the hoof.

DIAGNOSIS

If you recognize any 3 of the above symptoms your horse may be suffering the effects of low-grade laminitis and it’s worth having a chat to your vet to make any changes needed to correct these issues.
